Bike Room Highlight: Salesforce West in San Francisco

Vivid colors and themes turn a bike room into a fun place to park bikes.

Tech giant, Salesforce, recently wrapped major renovations to its Salesforce West Tower in the heart of San Francisco’s financial district. Many of the improvements were aimed at enhancing the experience of their tenants throughout the building’s common areas.

Drab concrete and granite were replaced with themes and vivid colors, including an immense video wall adorning their main lobby. This treatment found its way to the building’s new bike room as well, providing a vibrant space for the numerous daily cyclists.



A camp-like theme throughout the lobby extends into the bike storage room below. Bright murals adorn the walls and “trails” mark the aisles between indoor bike racks.



A combination of Vertical Racks and lift-assist Stack Racks allow for the highest density of bikes parked, while still granting easy access in and out of the room.



A Bike Fixation Deluxe Public Work Stand lets commuters make basic repairs and helps keep their bikes in riding condition.



Cyclists can easily access the space via a street-level bike lane that shoots them right into the lower garage, and on towards the bike room.



This was one of many solutions provided by Bikes Make Life Better who were brought on as consultants by Sales Force to assist with creating the building’s bicycle amenities.



Several Bike Docks allow riders to park a variety of bike types that do not fit on the higher density racks, allowing large cargo bikes to still find a secure space to park.



A private bike share fleet allows those without their bikes for the day to make quick trips through the downtown area.



Comments from commuters reiterate the importance of providing a variety of racks to accommodate the wide array people and bikes using the room.



The bike room at Salesforce West shows how a well-planned product selection, along with some creativity, can turn a dull bike storage space into a vibrant amenity for all of a building’s bicycle commuters.
